The Trek Stache 7 is equipped with a healthy and robust mix of components. I found this to be advantageous to typical police cyclist riding environments as well. This geometry allows the rider a more stable platform for riding over the ever-changing environment of trails. The geometry of the Trek Stache models is a bit slacker than their cross-country bikes, including a longer travel (120mm) fork. Trek was a very early adopter of 29er technology, and their years of experience have enabled them to refine the geometry of their bikes, using what they call G2 geometry. The Trek Stache is a trail-oriented, hard tail 29er. The Trek Stache 7 is in the middle, offering a good component spec while maintaining a low price. If it were person it’d be a modern day Jack London with an all-organic diet and 3 day old stubble. Though the bike is built to be a more aggressive mono-suspension machine, I would believe it would make a fantastic platform for a cross-country racer as well because of the superior 29er handling and very lightweight setup. I’m a fan of hardtails, though I can certainly appreciate the full capability of a full-suspension. Redundant, I know, but it begs for emphasis. They are the same wheels that were used on some of Trek’s all-mountain bikes, so I should not be surprised as to their strength. These wheels are strong, stiff, and confidence inspiring, rarely requiring anything in the way of maintenance because of their superior quality. Only recently did the rims need any tuning. I’m a fanatic about bike maintenance and so, like a good friend, I would ask the Stache 8 if he needed his wheels trued to protect their structural integrity. I’ve shown no mercy to these wheels, subjecting them to constant off-road use on a daily and bi-daily basis. However, the Bontrager Duster Elite rims are my favorite component. From the ultra-stiff XT rear derailleur and the SRAM front derailleur that emphatically throws the chain back and forth, to the durable Race Face Turbine crank. Along with the offset G2 Geometry fork, the responsiveness of the hardtail, and the incredible lightweight setup, all this makes for a bike that handles crisp and precise. A specially formed seat tube allowed the designers to bring the rear wheel in a little more, creating a tighter wheelbase for more nimble maneuvering. ![]() 29er wheels, 120mm of travel, and a 68.3 ° head angle help bring out a more aggressive nature. By blending together a unique combination of features, Trek has created a nimble trail machine that is more suited for decline than the typical front suspension option. The Trek Stache is currently marketed as a trail bike and is very appealing to riders who love the simplicity of a hardtail but want something with more cojones. With that said, here’s my detailed review. However, we (the voices in my head) strive for that next level of professionalism here at the Spare Bike Parts publication, and we cannot afford any slip in product quality. ![]() I could leave the review right there while feeling satisfied that it does the bike justice.
